The Empress Express: Nickolon
Nikolaou or Nicolaou is a Greek surname. It means "child of Nikolaos", and is both masculine and feminine. Nicolau is also another spelling.
The Empress Cemetery Register gives "Confectionary" as his occupation.
The Empress Express newspaper, which was published once-a-week on Thursdays:
1918-Nov-07: "George Nickolon" and "John Nickolon" are in the school hospital with influenza (see below). This is the only mention of George.
1918-Nov-14: John Nickolon is still in the school hospital.
1918-Nov-21: Neither Nickolon is in the school hospital.
1918-Nov-28: The school hospital has been closed because all patients have been discharged. "John Nickolon, left for Moose Jaw and Chicago on Saturday. {Nov. 23}"
The Empress Cemetery Register has the "Date of Order" and the "Date of Death" for "George Nickolow" the same, Nov. 21, 1918. I assume that the date of death is wrong and George died between Nov. 7 & 14, because of what was written in the Empress Express newspaper. Due to the Spanish Influenza epidemic, George would have been buried immediately, but for some reason, the "paperwork" on the burial didn't get done until Nov. 21. Possibly because (brother?) John left the hospital between Nov. 14 & 21, and on the 21st, he made sure that George's burial was recorded.
